The WTS could learn a lot from the pope.
by Simon inwho'd a thunk that the wts new age religion would have the old, stodgy, completely aloof, arrogant and out of touch leadership and the old established catholic church would have the hip, cool dude at the top totally rockin' it?!.
i'm not religious but i have to say, he seems like a great leader - down to earth, humble, sensible and not full of himself despite his position.
he used to be a bouncer, did the laundry for his underlings and generally sets an example of how people like the gb should behave ... but don't.. kudos to him for doing a great job so far.

Yes, the Catholic church has updated a lot of their understandings about Bible teachings too. Does that mean Proverbs 4:18 or whatever it is prophecies them too? I mean, the RC has made mistakes, but they've acknowledged most of them.

I guess just don't hammer her too hard with ttatt so you trigger her cult response or shut her down. I recommend a more round about approach like getting her to read books about it but not directly related, like "Escape" by Carolyn Jessop or "Nothing to Envy" by Barbara Demick. The first book is an autobiography about a woman who grew up in the FLDS cult and then escaped after years of putting up with abuse because she thought she had 'the truth', and the second is about life in North Korea. Both helped me see TTATT.

Public Prayer Booths Installed In Kansas City
by cofty inin the uk we have darwin on our banknotes.
in kansas you get public prayer booths in the streets installed at tax-payers expense... .
since the booths were put in throughout town several months ago, kansas city data tracking confirms that on average, the prayer booths receive over 100,000 callers per week.. it is therapeutic, that is how we lobbied them through city council, local pastor reverend miles collier reports.

Quellecatface, I was thinking the same thing. The Bible says that to be saved one must believe in Jesus and obey him. Funny all this other rubbish the org says. Paul even said that believing in Jesus and that he was resurrected is what you need to do.
Not that I necessarily believe in that, but reading what the bible said about 'salvation' and seeing how it's different to what the WT says you need to do, helped me get outta there.

Home schooled witness kids
by stillin insorry if i'm stepping on any toes here, but i haven't seen anything positive about home-schooling...at all.
the notion is that parents are taking advantage of the formative years to inculcate more worthwhile values while protecting their kids from worldly influences.
they end up with lazy, socially inept, illiterate duds who haven't a clue.

Georgia wrote: I remember a girl in my KH who upon turning the age to start high school here in Oz - 13 - her parents withdrew her from public school to be home-schooled...
Hey Georgia, you don't live on the Gold Coast by any chance?
And then further on this topic, I was actually thinking about it today at work (teacher) while I was supervising a load of year 7 and 8 kids (12-13). I realised when watching the children talking, playing, negotiating and just doing normal kid things like chatting, talking about celebrities and music, sharing photos, talking trash to each otherwhile working on projects together, and even playing handball in the quad, that the thing JW parents fear is kids being kids. One, they fear the kids working with each other to explore their kid-world and develop, and also that the things teachers tell them they have no control over.
I've really noticed the difference between school kids at play during their lunch breaks and class activities and JW kids at halls and assemblies. The JW kids are under constant control in everything from the way they speak to each other, the things they talk about, and who they hang with. At school, the kids are more or less under constant supervision too, but the teachers on playground duty don't control what they look like (except for breaches of uniform code) and what they talk about and what games they play. The teachers' concern is that the kids are safe in the playground and learning in the classroom. How the kids use their time is up to them within loose guidelines.
The JW kid, in my observation in the school playground, is a normal kid too. She chats, she talks trash, she plays handball, she runs around, she yells, negotiates- all the things kids do with each other. But at the kh and home and assemblies, she has to be like a JW adult.
Kids being kids- THAT'S what JW parents fear.

JW women love and the control system my view point
by MysticMage inwell let's just say i never had any luck with women in the jws.
i only met one super hot girl with a great body.

You're looking at it all wrong which to me is so typical of jw men. so many of them only go for looks like you, and end up with the hot chick who turns out to have nothing in common, is a bitch or is very high maintenance. Plain girls develop character because unlike beautiful women they don't get instant attention and what they want without having to do anything except spend at three hours a day maintaining their looks. You're better off with a plain girl who's genuine and interesting than some fake exterior with not much else. I know cuz I live in Australia's version of LA and it's full of Barbie dolls who are stupid, shallow and expensive to keep.
You must not be a very interesting person if you only think about looks. Looks are a bonus, but you need something to talk about the other 99% of the time, someone who likes similar things. You seem to me so typical of young jw men, only about what they can get and not about what they can give. A relationship is about what you can give the other person and that you wanna be with them because you are happy when they're there. You probably meet lots of interesting, intelligent, nice women but you don't give them a chance because you dismiss them straight away because they don't fit your narrow concept of what makes a good partner. Try being friends with girls out of unselfish motives.

I'm sure it will jgnat. Eventually it will dwindle. Its heyday is over.
I'm really appreciative of the support here, especially from ppl like Katewild and others who've been able to make that break. I only wish the da announcement wasn't the same as the df announcement, but I shouldn't even care what the cong thinks of me but for some strange reason I do, even though they already think the worst of me...makes no friggin sense.
